This was a collector’s guide to bizarre beliefs and nutcase fringe groups that would send you prize bulldada for your collection. It was only a book. Imagine that. Not even a big one. He may have missed one or two cranks, but Ivan Stang is a master scholar of bullshit, and he got most of it. One book. HA HA HA HA HA! Imagine the whole planet of books it would take now. Can even Google keep up?
Digital Bullshit has undergone a fundamental transformation and become virtual. The most staggering change is the sheer quantity. When I was reading about UFOs and lost civilizations in elementary school, I could get a book from the library downtown or maybe send away for a newsletter. A movie might come on TV, or I could rent a video on the weekend. Now you can get unlimited UFO twenty four hours a day if you want it. There is now so much bullshit that no one human could even begin to cover all of it. From a human perspective it has become effectively infinite.
This infinite cornucopia of virtual bullshit has also undergone a massive qualitative change from a few major themes to an explosive diversity that is now almost beyond cataloging, and yet is mostly interchangeable within the sprawling subcultures of bullshit. Another profound qualitative change is the creation of these vast bullshit communities. Once again we have gone from a few hours a day of radio talk shows, and a meeting maybe once a month for hardcore cranks, to endless architectures of social media available 24/7.
Swimming within this vast sewer are some of the most poisonous and murderous myths in human history. How have they mutated? Are they dangerous? Do they fit into the classic genealogies? Are they something else entirely? These are not academic questions when the flood of Alex Jones bullshit is overtaking the left and we saw the antiwar movement poison itself to death with the Protocols of the elders of 9/11.
During the Reagan 80s a number of classic blood libels against the Jews were recycled in the Satanism panic. In this case the myth had become detached from Jews and was focused on a largely imaginary group of people. There was a latent symbol of the old myth with the 5 pointed star that is so close in geometry to the Star of David, but no overt Anti-Semitic contents that I remember. This myth did lead to some scapegoating of metal heads by law enforcement, but nothing even approaching the kind of mass hatred that produced pogroms.
The modern conspiracy world follows this trend, as the basic model of a secret conspiracy comes straight out of classic Anti-Semitic mythology, yet most conspiracy theories have not only become largely detached from Jews, but from any identifiable subject that could actually be scapegoated, at least until the aliens openly take over at the white house. The Jew is often enough present in the new demonologies, but when he is standing next to the space lizards, the Anunnaki, the Templars, or the Kennedy assassins, he is merely one colorful character among many.
The Jew who pilots the UFO from Atlantis in order to spray the chemtrails that hide the approach of planet X belongs to the world of Saturday morning cartoons rather than the murderous mythologies of the New Testament or the Third Reich, and thus has lost any connection to the original Blood Libel of Deicide that invested the Jews with demonic cosmic powers as the murderers of God. As such most of these new myths are harmful mainly because they create ecosystems in which much more dangerous myths can live.
Proceeding from the work of master scholar Hyam Maccoby, we are hunting for the myths that include: a demonic power, a demonic crime, and specific human scapegoat. When we have only the first we are actually dealing with the last debased echo of Gnosticism, with aliens or the central banks as a sort of shabby and rotted Demiurge, and the mysteries of Art Bell as the liberating Gnosis.
One of the dangerous myths is found in the inchoate anti-globalism movements that are often a synthesis of the worst ideas of both the far left and the far right. Here the state of Israel has become a sort of global Jew, with the Zionist Conspiracy blamed for the entire world order, the entire modern history of the Middle East and the entire war between Islam and the West. This leads to a sort of tunnel vision that can’t see anything but Palestine in the best case, and a delusional paranoia that sees the dark hand of Mossad behind everything in the worst.
In the 9/11 truther faction we had both the demonic power of a super conspiracy and the demonic crime of 9/11. Very quickly the Jews were the prime suspects in certain quarters and so almost immediately we had all three aspects. The structure followed the older myth in form, but it was mostly a secular myth about physical events rather than cosmic metaphysics, although the symbolic outline of the Jews betraying and murdering America can be detected. For most of the people involved trutherism was mostly a form of extreme leftard or libertard signaling of opposition to Bush, and so predictably it dissolved after Obama got elected.
The main effect of the truthers in the Antiwar movement was to discredit the movement and push it towards dissolution as the cranks drove out the normal people and the movement was put on the same shelf as UFO books. In this case we got exactly what we deserved for fellow traveling with Jew conspiracy idiots. A left that can no longer defend itself against Alex Jones is no longer a left and is in fact now just another annex of the retarded UFO subculture. (Yetis of the world unite!)
The two main polarities of demonic Anti-Semitism on the new right are the Neo-Hitlerian racial theories of the Dark Enlightenment and the reconfigured Jew hatred of the Christian conservatives. As we will see these two narratives have much in common, and both say more about the psychological condition of the bigots than they presumably intended.
The most important Jew baiter for the Dark Enlightenment is Kevin MacDonald, “The Marx of the Anti-Semites”, who embeds the Hitlerian mythos in the modern scientism of evolutionary psychology. This upgrade of zoological materialism is merely a fashion Makeover, as it preserves the core of the Nazi myth that Jews are genetically poisonous parasites that feed off of and destroy other races.
In this “theory” the Jew spreads poison through ideas and politics that destroy the culture of the host race. The Jew is thus scapegoated for the entire failure of western civilization and particularly for the failures of conservative politics and culture. The blame that is laid on the Jews suggests an almost demonic power to hypnotize and manipulate the apparently helpless mass of goyim sheep. The Jewish race thus has the uncanny aspect of a cosmic evil baked into its very genes.
This is the road to the Holocaust, as it frames the “Jewish question” as an existential Darwinian struggle to the death, and yet the car has broken down along the way…
In the era of its vitality, Fascism imagined its enemy to be a Titanic demon. As an evolution of the Hitlerian myth the evolutionary psychology school of Jew baiting has fallen far from Rosenburg and the Protocols, with the once terrible global Talmudic conspiracy that controlled Banking, Communism, Masonry, The Press, and Democracy, reduced to the absurdly weak power of cultural contamination. This mythological shift inadvertently reveals the broken self image of the defeated reactionary and his complete despair of any political prospects.
In his similar “theory” of Cultural Marxism, William Lind masterfully reconfigures the symbolism of the original Christian myth of deicide in order to scapegoat the Jews for the death of God. Having brought Christianity into the world with the Murder of Jesus, the Jews now bring it to an end by murdering the Church with homosexuality, feminism, and abortion. To his credit Lind is only blaming the culture of a small group of Communist Jews rather than the whole race, and does not appear to be personally Anti-Semitic. This should not overshadow the fact that he went to a Holocaust denial conference to sell this theory, and that it is mainly popular with people who openly espouse racism and Jew hating.
This Frankfurt School of Communist Jews was so diabolic that they few poisoned the whole of western culture with obscure books that even other Marxists found unbearable to read. An unstoppable sort of gay sex Ebola was thus spread into the body of western society after 1968 to rot it from within with civil rights, drugs, hippies, feminism, and political correctness. This is the classic reactionary conspiracy theory, following the mold of blaming an absurd scapegoat for titanic social changes, revolutions, or the disastrous political defeats of the conservative cause. The founder of this tradition was the great counter-revolutionary Augustin Barruel, who divined the secret hand of the cursed Illuminati in the French revolution.
Lind mostly traffics in Anti-Black and Anti-Muslim “cultural” racism that reconfigures crude racist stereotypes as supposed cultural failures. The Communist Jew conspiracy is a lynch pin in his narrative however, as it explains how the great culture of the White Man was brought low from within, and how the church of Christ was murdered by Jews. Taken in a limited way it doesn’t resolve into much of a scapegoat, as the “Frankfurt School” as such was a loose collection of dissident Marxists. Taken in a maximal way it scapegoats anyone to the left of the Religious Right as a Cultural Marxist.
As an evolution of old Christian myth the theory of Cultural Marxism illuminates an even more catastrophic collapse of self confidence. When the religion was young and vigorous it imagined its mythical enemy to be a cosmic evil so powerful it could murder God. In its senile decomposition it trembles in fear before disheveled bohemians and obscure academics.
